3D Movies Out In 2008 & 2009

Journey to the Centre of the Earth is out in the States, but also being released in 2008 are:

Fly Me To The Moon (8th August)
Bolt (28th November)

The studios are demanding something different in the light of home entertainment. Many of us have HD TVs, Blu-Ray and high-quality surround sound and the studios know that we need a reason to go out and spend £15-odd on cinema tickets rather than stay in and watch a movie on demand. The studios see 3D cinema as being the answer.

3D cinema has been around since 1952 when Arch Oboler released "Bwana Devil" and there have been many mainstream 3d movies such as the MGM production "Kiss Me Kate"; Alfred Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder"; and "Hondo" with John Wayne, but now it's going mass-market.

In 2009 there are a good number of movies due out:

My Bloody Valentine
Coraline
Monsters vs. Aliens
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Up
G-Force

and an these movies have unknown release dates:

Piranha
Final Destination 4: 3-D

Journey to the Center of the Earth Leads To Increased 3D Demand

Fox Business reports that the release of the film Journey to the Center of the Earth has led to cinema owners calling for inhanced 3D technologies.

It appears RealD and NECare working together to provide top qaulity displays for the next generation of movie-goers.

Avator Movie To "Blow You To The Back Wall Of The Theatre"

Well that was Cameron's comments about his new movie called "Avator" which started filming in New Zealand (again) recently and will star Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Giovanni Ribisi.

He Told The Hollywood Reporter that his goal is to "o rekindle those amazing mystical moments my generation felt when we first saw '2001: A Space Odyssey,' or the next generation's 'Star Wars.' It took me 10 years to find something hard enough to be interesting."

The BFI IMAX London

The BFI IMAX cinema is a 477-seater, all singing, all-dancing cinema on the South Bank in London and came about because of £15 million of funding froming from the Arts Council of England's Lottery Fund.

The screen is the largest in the country at 20 meters high and 26 meters high. IT also has a 11,600-watt digital surround-sound system.

World's first 3D digital cinema advert

A graphic design and animation studio company called BUG have created the world's first digital 3D cinema advert fro Mitsubishi's new range of cars D Cinema Today reports.

Digital 3D is viewed as the next major step forward in cinema technology and follows on from the release of Disney's "Chicken Little" in the new stereoscopic digital format which doesn't require the red-blue glasses or the large IMAX-style glasses.

At the NAB conference in Las Vegas this year 'Titanic' director James Cameron predicted that Digital 3D would be the saviour of cinema with most major blockbusters released by the Hollywood studios in digital 3D.

Directors George Lucas and Peter Jackson have also announced plans to re-release the 'Star Wars' and 'Lord of the Rings' trilogies in stereoscopically re-rendered digital 3D versions within a few years.
